Jesus Creed on the Neoreformed

I enjoyed meeting and eating lunch with Scot Mcknight this week. I can't think of many NT scholars who have been more effective at bridging the vast divide between the academy and the church. We discussed his recent blog posts "who are the neo-reformed? I" & who are the neo-reformed? II.

The issue of the neoreformed is a troubling one for me. As an Anabaptist I have found these folks to carry a genre of the Christian faith that is not only troubling but oppressive. Why they predicate orthodoxy on inerrancy and complementarianism is beyond me. As a student at a school with many neoreformed students and professors, I honestly cannot tell if they worship the Bible or Christ? The unfortunate part about this movement is that it is not only large, but led by people who have become virtual rock stars. I am grateful for Mcknight's willingness to step out and say some things about the neoreformed that have needed to be said for quite some time. Some have accused Mcknight of mudslinging. I disagree. Having spoken with Mckight, I am confident that he is simply trying to get these leaders and their followers to approach "the other" with some humility. I hope that the neoreformed can find room for those of us who want to keep the village green open for all to come and converse!

  1. I read his articles. I think

I read his articles. I think He has great stuff to say about the neoreformed. If people call his stuff mudslinging, then what to they call there own stuff...? That is awesome you got to have lunch with him, great.
